This may involve leap years.

I'm not actually sure if leap years are involved, but I hard-coded it so that anything less than 2 years is reported as 1 year; the same for months. Since the window in which this actually occurred seems to have been relatively small, and the whole purpose of soft_age is for human legibility and not accuracy, I don't feel bad about this approximateness.
